Say it louder

Speaking the name of Jesus

Jo Marks remembers when she first heard a song being played...

Recently, I have been reminded of the power of the name of Jesus simply through a song.

‘I Speak Jesus’ written by Here Be Lions, was played in church for the first time, and it had an impact on my life that took me by surprise.

We can get so used to worship and singing songs that we often become numb to the meaning of the words.

As we sang this song, I felt a prompting by the Holy Spirit that I had become so used to hearing the name of Jesus used as a curse or expletive that somehow, I had become desensitised to its power.

This is exactly what the enemy wants. If he can deplete the name of Jesus and its power in our lives, then he has won.

The Bible is clear about the name of Jesus, and I want to remind us of a few facts:

  • It is the name bestowed by God; therefore, it is significant. It is the name above all names. At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow in heaven and on earth.
  • This name has authority. All who call on the name of Jesus will be saved. Demons are subject to his name.
  • This name has power. Signs and wonders happen in his name. This was not just for the early church but for now.

When I began to reflect on my life where I have experienced his powerful name at work in signs and wonders, I recalled his protection, his strength, his healing and how I have used his name in spiritual battle.

In Acts chapter four, the religious leaders attempted to silence Peter and John after the healing of the paralysed man.

They told them they should never speak of the name of Jesus ever again, but here is the apostles’ response: “We can’t, and we won’t stay silent.”

Peter and John were clear that this man was healed in the name of Jesus. Faith is key to the power of the name of Jesus working in our lives.

Be encouraged that God isn’t looking for a vast amount of faith, faith as small as a mustard seed is sufficient to call upon his name for your situation, for your wellbeing, for your destiny, for your family and for your breakthrough.

The enemy is keen to silence the name of Jesus today. Remember, your testimony cannot be silenced. Attempts will be made to silence Jesus’ name, but they cannot silence your story.

The lyrics in the song ‘I speak Jesus’ include: ‘his name is power, his name is healing, his name is life. Break every stronghold, shine through the shadows, burn like a fire’.

Why don’t you listen to the song, let faith arise within you and begin to declare the name of Jesus in your life, over your family, over your work and over your challenges?

Your testimony is coming.
